Riyadh, October 27, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is expected to attend the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh this week, two sources familiar with the matter said, in his latest effort to bring Syria back onto the international stage after more than a decade of conflict.

Sharaa is scheduled to address the Kingdom’s flagship investment event on Tuesday, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The Syrian presidency and the Saudi government’s media office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Since assuming power from Bashar al-Assad ten months ago, Sharaa has undertaken a series of foreign visits as part of efforts by his transitional government to rebuild diplomatic ties with global powers that distanced themselves from Damascus during Assad’s rule.

Saudi Arabia has played a significant role in that process. In May 2025, Riyadh hosted a meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Sharaa, and U.S. President Donald Trump, during which Washington announced plans to lift sanctions on Syria to support reconstruction efforts.

The World Bank has estimated Syria’s reconstruction costs at $216 billion. Sharaa has called on international partners to assist in the rebuilding process.

The FII conference is expected to gather a prominent line-up of political and business leaders, including Colombian President Gustavo Petro, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, and Citi CEO Jane Fraser, who recently became co-chair of the U.S.-Saudi Business Council.

Senior figures from the technology and energy sectors, including Intel Chairman Lip-Bu Tan and Aramco CEO Amin Nasser, are also scheduled to participate in the event.
