RIYADH, August 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia welcomed a statement issued by members of the UN Security Council condemning Houthi missile attacks against the Kingdom since July 13 and attacks targeting commercial vessels since July 22.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the statement’s emphasis on compliance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.
The Kingdom also highlighted the importance of respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity, while rejecting actions that threaten Middle East security or maritime navigation rights and freedoms.
Saudi Arabia called on the international community to implement relevant Security Council resolutions and take a firm position against violations threatening regional stability, safe navigation and international trade.
The ministry said such violations undermined efforts to achieve peace in Yemen and across the broader Middle East.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its determination to protect its security and sovereignty, reserving the right to defend its citizens, assets and facilities and to take necessary measures in accordance with international law.
Saudi Arabia also reiterated its support for Yemen’s legitimate government and for the diplomatic efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to achieve lasting peace and stability and safeguard international maritime routes.
