Riyadh, March 15, 2026 (SABN) - British energy secretary Ed Miliband said on Sunday that the United Kingdom was exploring “any options” to help secure the Strait of Hormuz and reopen the vital shipping route.

“It’s a priority for the world that the strait is reopened. Obviously the best and simplest way to do that is to de-escalate the conflict,” Miliband said on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme.

He said the British government was in talks with allies, including the United States, about the strait.

“Any options that can help to get the strait reopened are being looked at,” Miliband said.

He did not give operational details, saying only that there were different ways Britain could contribute and that options were being examined with allies.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he hoped several countries, including China, France, Japan, South Korea and Britain, would help the United States secure the Strait of Hormuz by sending warships to the region.
