WASHINGTON, June 1 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The United States carried out several strikes on Iranian military sites over the weekend, U.S. Central Command said, as details of a draft peace deal with Tehran remained uncertain, AFP reported.
CENTCOM said in a post on X that “self-defence” strikes targeted Iranian radar and drone command-and-control sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.
It said the strikes followed Iranian actions that included the downing of a U.S. MQ-1 drone.
Kuwait’s military said on Monday that its air defences intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks, as air raid sirens sounded across the country.
“The General Staff of the Army wishes to advise that any sounds of explosions heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting these hostile attacks,” the Kuwaiti military said in a post on X.
The latest tensions came as U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly hardened negotiating terms with Iran aimed at ending the war.
U.S. media reported that Trump sent Tehran a revised version of a possible memorandum of understanding containing several tightened negotiating points.
Trump has said his priorities include preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blockaded since the war began.
Iranian officials said negotiations were continuing but cautioned that no agreement had been reached.
“We will not approve any agreement until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been upheld,” Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a video broadcast on state television.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that “until a clear conclusion is reached ... everything that is being said now is speculation,” according to state TV.
Iran has said it needs the release of $12 billion in frozen assets before engaging in substantive talks on its nuclear programme, according to Iranian media.
