RIYADH, March 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Qatar’s prime minister called for de-escalation in the conflict involving Iran and urged a diplomatic solution, according to remarks broadcast on Sunday.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, prime minister of Qatar, said Doha would continue engaging with Iranian officials in an effort to reduce tensions.

“We will continue talking to the Iranians, we will continue trying to seek de-escalation,” he said in an interview with Sky News.

The Qatari prime minister said recent events had delivered “a huge shake-up” to the trust underpinning relations with Iran.

He added that Doha supports efforts to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis and stressed the need for Iran to halt attacks against Gulf states and other countries not directly involved in the conflict.

The United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran last week, prompting Tehran to fire missiles toward Israel and several Gulf locations hosting U.S. military facilities.
