Paris, October 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Authorities in France are investigating a robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris after thieves broke into the Galerie d’Apollon on Sunday morning and stole several historic royal jewels, the French Culture Ministry confirmed.

According to officials, the thieves arrived early Sunday on a road along the Seine River and used an extendable ladder to access an upper window leading into the Apollo Gallery, a grand hall renowned for its ornate gold-leaf decorations and painted ceilings inspired by the Greek sun god Apollo.

Stolen Jewels

The Culture Ministry said that eight significant pieces were stolen during the heist:

  • Tiara from the jewelry set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense

  • Necklace from the sapphire jewelry set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense

  • One sapphire earring, part of a pair belonging to the same set

  • Emerald necklace from the Marie-Louis set

  • Pair of emerald earrings from the Marie-Louis set

  • Reliquary brooch

  • Tiara of Empress Eugénie

  • Large bodice knot (brooch) of Empress Eugénie

Authorities said that the crown of Empress Eugénie, made of gold, emeralds, and diamonds, was found outside the museum, apparently dropped by the thieves as they fled the scene.

The Galerie d’Apollon, originally commissioned by King Louis XIV after a fire in 1661, was designed by architect Louis Le Vau to reflect the monarch’s new emblem, the sun. The gallery later inspired the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, completed two decades later.

An investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing surveillance footage and security protocols as officials work to recover the stolen jewels.
