Iran Says Ships From ‘Hostile Countries’ Still Blocked From Strait of Hormuz

DUBAI, May 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iran said ships belonging to “hostile countries” remain barred from passing through the Strait of Hormuz as talks continue between Tehran and Washington, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported on Wednesday.

The naval arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said vessels linked to hostile countries are prohibited from crossing the strategic waterway.

Tehran will continue cooperation with countries that comply with the “Iranian order,” IRIB reported.

The statement comes despite expectations that a proposed U.S.-Iran deal could increase commercial traffic through the strait.

Iran still appears to be seeking a greater degree of control over the waterway than existed before the conflict.

IRIB reported that more ships were expected to cross the strait in the coming hours. The IRGC said late Tuesday that 25 ships had passed through the waterway over the previous 24 hours.

Ship-tracking services could not confirm that number, partly because vessels transiting the strait often turn off AIS transponders that show their location.

About 20% of the world’s oil supply typically passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
