UAE climber Fatima Al Awadhi becomes youngest Arab to reach above 7,000 metres

ABU DHABI, July 29 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Emirati mountaineer Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi has become the youngest Arab to reach an elevation above 7,000 metres and the first Emirati to summit Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan.
Al Awadhi, 19, reached the 7,134-metre summit in the Pamir Mountains on July 18 without supplementary oxygen, completing her highest ascent to date.
The expedition lasted about three weeks and included an acclimatisation rotation followed by a final push to the summit. Lenin Peak is known for rapidly changing weather, glaciated terrain and prolonged exposure at high altitude.
The ascent came one year after Al Awadhi climbed Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest mountain at 5,642 metres. She has also summited Vinson Massif in Antarctica, Carstensz Pyramid in Oceania and Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
Al Awadhi raised the UAE flag at the summit and carried a message from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighting ambition, hope, resilience and perseverance.
“Mountaineering has taught me that the greatest rewards come from embracing challenges,” Al Awadhi said, adding that she hoped her achievement would encourage young Emiratis and women to pursue ambitious goals.
Al Awadhi has completed four of the Seven Summits and is seeking to finish the challenge before turning 20. She is also pursuing the Explorer’s Grand Slam while continuing her full-time university studies.
