Brussels, March 2, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The European Union condemned Iranian attacks on a number of countries in the region on Monday, calling them a serious violation of sovereignty and an unacceptable escalation that threatens regional security and stability.

The bloc urged Tehran to immediately halt what it described as indiscriminate strikes and to refrain from steps that could widen the conflict.

The statement followed an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels to discuss the fast-moving developments and their repercussions for regional security, energy supplies and international navigation. The EU signalled it could impose additional sanctions on Iran.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc was following developments in Iran and the Middle East with the utmost concern and reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability, international law and the protection of its security interests. She noted the EU has already adopted extensive sanctions in response to actions by Iranian authorities.

The EU called for maximum restraint, the protection of civilians and full respect for international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. It warned the Middle East stands to lose greatly from any protracted conflict.

The bloc expressed solidarity with regional partners that have been attacked or affected and reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability and the protection of civilian life.

It also said Iran’s full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and adherence to obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement are crucial, describing nuclear safety as a critical priority alongside maritime security and freedom of navigation.
