DUBAI, February 5, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented the Global Teacher Prize 2026 to Indian educator Rouble Nagi during the World Governments Summit in Dubai, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The tenth edition of the prize carries an award of US$1 million and is presented by GEMS Education.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Hamdan framed the award as recognition of educators’ role in shaping future generations and supporting social development through learning and values.
Nagi received the award for education initiatives that use public art as a teaching platform, including interactive murals focused on literacy, numeracy, health and environmental awareness. Over two decades, her programmes supported the integration of more than one million children into formal education, with the selection made from more than 5,000 nominations and applications across 139 countries.
Through the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, she established more than 800 educational centres across India in over 100 low-income communities and villages, with programmes combining structured learning, remedial support, psychosocial support and creative activities. Her network also trained more than 600 teachers and volunteers.
Her programmes recorded a reduction in school dropout rates of more than 50%, and she plans to direct the US$1 million prize toward establishing a vocational institute offering free professional-skills and digital-literacy training for underprivileged children and youth.
