ABU DHABI, January 13, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Yas Clinic Khalifa City, working with the Abu Dhabi Stem Cell Centre (ADSCC), has completed a matched unrelated donor (MUD) bone marrow transplant, a complex procedure that the clinic described as a milestone for advanced haematology services in the emirate.
The patient, a 55-year-old Emirati woman with a serious blood disorder, required a transplant as part of her treatment plan. After no compatible donors were found within her family, the medical team conducted an international search through global donor registries.
A fully compatible donor was identified in the United States, triggering a coordinated process that included medical assessments, stem cell collection and international transport, the clinic said.
The infusion lasted between 30 minutes and one hour, similar to a routine blood-product infusion. The patient is recovering in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Yas Clinic Khalifa City and is expected to be discharged within two weeks.
Dr. Maysoon Al Karam, Chief Medical Officer at Yas Clinic, said the case reflected “the strength and maturity of Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem,” adding that it required “seamless collaboration across teams, institutions, and international partners.”
Dr. Nameer Al-Saadawi, Consultant, Hematology and Deputy Chief Medical Officer, said the transplant “required seamless coordination with international partners and exceptional teamwork locally,” and that it provided renewed hope during a critical stage of treatment.
Dr. Inas El-Najjar, Consultant, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Yas Clinic, said the donor search through global registries was detailed and rigorous, and that coordination with the U.S. centre ensured stem cells arrived safely and in optimal condition.
