Kingdom’s Health Sector Sees Major Gains as Life Expectancy Reaches 79.9 Years

RIYADH, April 7, 2026, Saudi Arabia Breakinf News - Saudi Arabia has recorded notable progress in its healthcare sector, with life expectancy increasing from 74 years in 2016 to 79.9 years by the end of 2025, according to the Health Sector Transformation Program. The announcement, made in conjunction with World Health Day on April 7, reflects the Kingdom’s steady advancement toward its Vision 2030 target of 80 years.

The improvement has been supported by significant developments in clinical research. Between 2023 and 2025, the number of clinical trials in the Kingdom rose by 51.4 percent, while the average time required to initiate those trials declined by 48 percent. These gains have contributed to faster treatment development and enhanced the overall value of scientific research within the healthcare system.

The Kingdom has also strengthened its research ecosystem through broader private-sector and institutional participation. The number of companies sponsoring clinical trials increased by 36 percent, while the number of trial sites reached 13. This growth highlights Saudi Arabia’s increasing capacity to attract high-quality investment and establish effective scientific partnerships at both the local and international levels.

Dr. Khalid Al Shaibani, CEO of the Health Sector Transformation Program, said the expansion of clinical trials reflects Saudi Arabia’s rising position as a regional hub for health innovation. He added that continued investment in science and research is delivering measurable improvements in public health, supporting quality of life, and reinforcing the objectives of Vision 2030 in the health sector.
