Basra, October 26, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – At least two workers were killed and five others seriously injured in an oil pipeline fire at Iraq’s Zubair oilfield on Sunday, according to oilfield officials.
The blaze erupted while a group of workers were conducting welding operations near the pipeline, which transports crude oil from the Zubair field to nearby storage tanks. Officials said firefighters were working to extinguish the fire, which broke out earlier in the day.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry said in a statement that the fire originated from a gas leak in an old pumping system at the Zubair oil storage depot, confirming the death of one Basra Oil Company (BOC) employee and injuries to four others.
Officials added that some of the wounded suffered severe burns and remain in critical condition, warning that the number of fatalities could rise.
Oilfield officials said there was no immediate impact on crude output, which remains at around 400,000 barrels per day, though the situation could disrupt some loading operations if the fire is not contained quickly.
The ministry noted that incidents of this nature require time to be fully contained and that specialized teams are on-site to control the situation.
