RIYADH, March 23 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Washington and Tehran had “major points of agreement” after what he described as strong talks, adding that discussions would continue on Monday.
Speaking to reporters before departing Florida for Memphis, Trump said the two sides had held talks on Sunday and were expected to speak again by phone later on Monday.
“We have had very, very strong talks. We’ll see where they lead. We have major points of agreement, I would say, almost all points of agreement,” Trump said.
“We’re going to get together today by probably phone,” he added.
Trump said U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner had taken part in the talks.
He did not identify who the United States had spoken to on the Iranian side, but described the interlocutor as “the man who I believe is the most respected and the leader.”
Trump said Washington had not heard from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He added that he did not know whether Khamenei was alive, but said he did not want him killed.
