Riyadh, March 11, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Three additional commercial vessels were struck by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, maritime security and risk firms said, bringing the total number of ships hit in the region since the conflict began to at least 14.
The incidents underline the growing risks for merchant shipping in the waterway, through which around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply normally passes.
The Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was struck by two projectiles of unknown origin while transiting the strait, its operator Precious Shipping said in a statement.
The attack caused a fire and damage to the engine room. The company said three crew members are missing and believed to be trapped in the engine room, while the remaining 20 crew members were evacuated safely to Oman.
Two other vessels also reported damage earlier Wednesday.
The Japan-flagged container ship ONE Majesty, owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and chartered by Ocean Network Express, sustained minor damage from a projectile while anchored about 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras Al Khaimah.
A third vessel, the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier Star Gwyneth, was hit by a projectile about 50 miles northwest of Dubai, according to maritime risk firm Vanguard Tech. The ship’s hull was damaged but the crew remained safe.
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed sharply since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that vessels passing through the strait could be targeted.
Industry sources told Reuters the United States Navy has so far declined requests from shipping companies to escort vessels through the strait, citing the high risk of attacks.
