RIYADH, June 2 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - The 18-month programme in Unayzah will train Saudi participants in traditional carpentry, Najdi decoration and the craft of making doors linked to the Kingdom’s architectural heritage.

The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, Wrth, has opened registration for a new cohort of its apprenticeship programme specialising in carpentry arts and Najdi doors, as part of its efforts to transfer traditional craft knowledge to a new generation of practitioners.

The programme aims to teach the skills and techniques associated with the making of Najdi doors, one of the distinctive crafts connected to traditional Najdi architecture.

Held at the institute’s headquarters in Unayzah, in the Qassim region, the programme will offer trainees an 18-month practical learning experience inside craft workshops. Participants will study traditional carpentry, Najdi engraving and decorative arts, as well as methods of producing doors using modern tools and techniques.

Training will take place under the supervision of experienced craftsmen and specialists, allowing participants to learn through direct practice and close interaction with professionals in the field.

The programme goes beyond technical instruction by offering a direct apprenticeship model that reconnects trainees with one of the important crafts associated with Najdi architectural identity. It also gives participants the opportunity to transform this traditional heritage into a contemporary professional and creative practice.

The initiative forms part of Wrth’s wider work to preserve and sustain Saudi traditional arts through educational programmes based on hands-on learning and the transfer of living expertise from craftsmen to younger generations.

The programme will begin on August 23, 2026. Study is offered free of charge to Saudi citizens, with registration and further details available through the institute’s official platform.DH, June 2 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News)
