Riyadh, March 4, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques is rehabilitating Al-Hawza Mosque in Dhahran Al-Janoub in Aseer as part of efforts to preserve Islamic heritage under Vision 2030.

The mosque was built in 8 AH by Ali ibn Abi Talib during a trip to Yemen to spread Islam, according to the information provided. It is among the oldest mosques in the region and underwent expansions in 1213 AH and 1353 AH.

The mosque’s architectural identity reflects the Sarawat region’s style, using layered mud bricks and local wood to align with the mountainous environment.

After being included in the project in 2022, the mosque’s area was expanded to 293 square metres, raising capacity to 148 worshippers while maintaining historic features including an internal well.

The project is using specialised Saudi companies and engineers, aiming to balance traditional sustainability with modern standards and restore architectural authenticity, according to the information provided.
