Riyadh, October 1, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia marked International Coffee Day on Wednesday, underscoring the cultural and economic importance of coffee as both a global commodity and a symbol of national heritage.

Coffee, celebrated annually on October 1, has roots traced to Ethiopia in the sixth century before spreading worldwide. Today, it represents social and cultural exchange and is valued as a global economic resource exceeding $100 billion annually.

In the Kingdom, coffee is deeply tied to national identity, especially in the regions of Aseer, Al-Baha, and Jazan. Saudi Arabia’s annual production capacity is about 2,400 tons, sourced from 398,000 trees across more than 2,500 farms. Harvesting, which begins in spring, involves manual picking and diverse processing methods such as drying, washing, and the honey method to preserve bean quality.

To further strengthen the sector, Saudi Arabia established Coffee City in Al-Baha, planting 300,000 trees and creating more than 1,000 jobs. The coffee tree, an evergreen species, thrives in highland environments between 800 and 2,000 meters above sea level – conditions provided by the Kingdom’s southern mountains.

Officials said Saudi coffee continues to play an integral role in national heritage while contributing to agricultural development and the Kingdom’s economy.
