Saudi Arabia Concludes 1447 AH Hajj Season With No Epidemic Outbreaks

RIYADH, May 31 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia concluded the 1447 AH Hajj season without epidemic outbreaks, after receiving more than 1.7 million pilgrims and deploying large-scale health, security, transport and digital systems, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Official figures showed that 1,707,301 pilgrims performed Hajj this year, including 1.54 million pilgrims arriving from outside the Kingdom.
The health sector provided more than 2.5 million services to pilgrims, including 410 complex surgical procedures and 33 open-heart surgeries. Medical teams also used robotics, drones and remote monitoring technologies during the season.
Saudi authorities said the Makkah Route Initiative processed 388,694 pilgrims in their home countries across 10 countries, with AI-powered mobile counters completing entry procedures in 40 seconds per pilgrim.
Crowd management operations were supported by the AI-powered Sawaher platform, which used 16 algorithms and 5,000 cameras to monitor movement. The Jamarat facility handled up to 300,000 pilgrims per hour and operated 386 escalators.
The Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro transported more than two million passengers during the season, replacing around 50,000 bus trips.
Authorities said more than 712 million food and beverage items were secured, while sanitation teams removed more than 266,000 tons of waste from Makkah and the holy sites.
Environmental and infrastructure measures included the installation of 20,000 lighting units across 5,000 towers in Arafat and the planting of 60,000 trees in the holy sites.
The National Center for Meteorology reported 98% weather forecasting accuracy during the season, supported by artificial intelligence and 21 automated stations.
Saudi Arabia also distributed 1.9 million copies of the Holy Quran translated into 80 languages to departing pilgrims, while 2,500 international pilgrims were hosted under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Guests Program for Hajj, Umrah and Visit.
Separately, the report cited Saudi humanitarian support for Yemen, including $150 million in urgent fuel derivatives through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen and a $3 million KSrelief-UNHCR protection program benefiting 44,722 displaced and refugee individuals.
The report also cited Saudi economic activity, including Aramco’s transfer of PRefChem stakes to PETRONAS, as part of broader energy and industrial portfolio developments.
