New York, Sept 23, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia and France issued a joint statement as co-chairs of the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, calling for swift implementation of the two-state solution following the adoption of the New York Declaration by the UN General Assembly.
The declaration, endorsed by 142 member states, reaffirmed international commitment to establishing a sovereign Palestinian state and outlined a framework to end the war in Gaza and achieve lasting peace.
The statement welcomed recent recognition of Palestine by several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Portugal, Luxembourg, Malta, Denmark, Andorra, Monaco and San Marino, alongside France. It urged other nations to follow suit.
The co-chairs called for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, prisoner exchanges, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. They also backed the deployment of a temporary international stabilization mission under UN Security Council mandate, alongside programs to train and equip Palestinian security forces.
The statement highlighted the need to unify Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority and reiterated that Hamas must disarm and relinquish control of Gaza. It commended President Mahmoud Abbas for commitments to peace, reforms, and elections within a year of a ceasefire.
It also announced the launch of the Emergency Coalition for Palestine to mobilize financial support for the Palestinian Authority and called for the release of withheld Palestinian tax revenues.
The co-chairs urged Israel to publicly commit to the two-state solution, halt settlement activity, end land seizures, and rescind annexation projects, warning that unilateral measures pose a direct risk to peace agreements.
Saudi Arabia and France reaffirmed that ending the Israeli occupation and establishing a Palestinian state based on UN resolutions remains the foundation for peace and regional integration, consistent with the Arab Peace Initiative. They also supported renewed efforts on the Syria-Israel and Lebanon-Israel tracks to achieve comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
