Riyadh, September 10, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Red Sea Global (RSG) has unveiled two major international artworks to mark the opening of the first passenger terminal hall at Red Sea International Airport, blending local heritage with contemporary design to create a distinctive cultural experience for travelers.

Located within a three-hour flight for around 250 million people and an eight-hour flight for nearly 85% of the global population, the airport has become a key gateway to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Since launching its first domestic flights from Jeddah and Riyadh in September 2023, followed by two weekly international flights from Dubai in April 2024, the airport has emerged as a vital entry point to the Kingdom’s tourism destinations.

The first artwork, Shuttle, is a six-meter-high and nine-meter-wide installation weighing nearly one ton. Installed at the airport’s reception center, it features dynamic screens that simulate wind movements and the flow of the Red Sea waters. Drawing inspiration from the traditional craft of sadu, which UNESCO listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020, the installation fuses natural elements with digital technology.

The second piece, Glass Symphony, comprises four glass sculptures placed throughout the terminal. Inspired by coral reefs and seagrasses in the Red Sea, the works highlight biodiversity and the need to protect marine ecosystems. The installations reflect Red Sea Global’s 2024 initiative to restore seagrasses through advanced ecological techniques.

“These works open a window onto the Kingdom’s coasts, culture, and natural environment, inspiring both visitors and the local community by reflecting the beauty and uniqueness of the Red Sea,” said Dalia Islam, Director of Arts and Culture at Red Sea Global.
