MAKKAH, March 18, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites reported that more than 64 million passengers were transported via shuttle bus services to and from the Grand Mosque during Ramadan, one of the busiest periods of the year.

The shuttle transport system operated over 1.5 million trips using more than 2,600 buses across seven central stations, helping ease congestion and improve access to the Grand Mosque during peak times.

Average station clearance times during peak hours fell to under 60 minutes, marking a reduction of around 21% compared with last Ramadan.

Public transport within Makkah also recorded strong activity, with city buses carrying more than 2.2 million passengers across over 85,000 trips, while taxi services completed more than 51,000 journeys.

Entry points for pilgrims, including miqats and boundary mosques, recorded around 4 million visitors, supporting the regulated flow of pilgrims into the city.

Cultural and historical sites in Makkah received more than 15,000 visitors across 14 locations during Ramadan.

Additional prayer areas surrounding the Grand Mosque accommodated over 850,000 worshippers during peak periods, helping reduce crowd density.

The integrated transport and service systems contributed to improving mobility and managing visitor flows during the holy month.
