RIYADH, August 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — More than 2,000 photographic works have been submitted to the Kingdom Photography Award during its first three editions, reflecting nationwide interest in a program created to support Saudi photography talent and document the Kingdom’s visual diversity.
Nearly 41 winners have been selected since the Visual Arts Commission launched the award in 2022.
Each edition has placed photographers in a different part of Saudi Arabia. Tabuk hosted the inaugural edition, followed by Al-Ahsa and Aseer, allowing participants to work with landscapes, heritage and local visual environments from across the Kingdom.
The award has combined its open calls with panel discussions, workshops and accompanying events. These programs have given photographers and audiences opportunities to examine photographic methods, build artistic skills and exchange expertise.
Selected works from different editions later reached an international audience through the “In a New Light” exhibition at the Abbazia Building in Venice, Italy. The exhibition presented contemporary Saudi photographic perspectives and reflected the range of practices developing within the Kingdom’s visual arts scene.
The Visual Arts Commission highlighted the award’s three-edition record to coincide with World Photography Day. The commission continues to provide platforms through which photographers can explore Saudi Arabia and document its natural and cultural character.
