Donald Trump Posts Map Labeling Strait of Hormuz ‘New US Territory’

RIYADH, August 18 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — US President Donald Trump published a map on Truth Social on Tuesday that placed the words “New US Territory” over the Strait of Hormuz.
The image shows a circle drawn around the strategic waterway between Iran and Oman at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.
Trump shared the map one day after describing the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory as a “great idea.”
“I mean we control it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about his earlier statement that he would soon declare the strait US territory.
“We control it with the blockade, and I like the idea of declaring it a territory,” the president added.
The Strait of Hormuz has become a central point of leverage in the war with Iran. Iran has effectively kept the waterway closed since fighting began in late February, disrupting one of the principal routes used for global oil shipments.
