Rafha, Sept 22, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – King Abdulaziz Palace in the historic village of Lina, Rafha Governorate, has stood for nearly 90 years as a landmark of Saudi Arabia’s unification era and one of the most prominent heritage sites in the Northern Borders Region.
The palace was commissioned by King Abdulaziz around 1354–1355 AH (1935–1936 AD) and built on an area of 4,320 square meters using mud, stone, and adobe in the architectural style of the time. It features four circular towers at its corners, a large wooden main gate on the southern façade, and a secondary gate on the western side.
Inside, the palace contains 52 rooms overlooking a central courtyard, along with a mosque, water well, horse stables, a prayer area, and a ceremonial square. It served as the headquarters of Lina Principality, the seat of administration for the Northern Borders Region, and the residence of the local governor, symbolizing both governance and heritage.

Lina’s location, about 100 kilometers from Rafha on the ancient Darb Zubaydah trade route linking the Arabian Peninsula with Iraq, enhanced the palace’s role as a hub for merchants and caravans. Supported by its abundant wells, Lina became a center of economic growth and social prosperity.
Today, as the Kingdom celebrates its 95th National Day under the slogan “Our Pride is in Our Nature,” King Abdulaziz Palace in Lina is recognized as a monument of authenticity and progress, connecting present generations with the nation’s journey of unification and development.
