BEIRUT, June 7 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Israel issued a renewed evacuation warning for the ancient Lebanese city of Tyre as clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah escalated despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between the governments of Israel and Lebanon, according to CNN.
The warning covers residents in neighborhoods and camps surrounding Tyre, a coastal city north of the zone occupied by Israeli forces.
Israel said the evacuations were necessary because of Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Hezbollah was not party to the ceasefire deal and has rejected it while Israeli forces remain in Lebanon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun criticized Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem after he rejected the agreement, saying in an interview with CNN that Qassem did not represent the Lebanese people.
The Israeli military reported intercepting two projectiles that crossed from Lebanon into northern Israel earlier Sunday.
On Saturday, the Lebanese army reported that an Israeli strike on a military vehicle in southern Lebanon killed several Lebanese soldiers, including a senior officer.
The U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon criticized the strike.
The Israeli military said it struck the vehicle after it was seen moving suspiciously in an evacuated area where it had indications Hezbollah was operating.
Two Israeli soldiers were also killed in separate incidents in southern Lebanon over the weekend, according to the Israeli military.
