RIYADH, September 6, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Asia will have prime viewing of the year’s second total lunar eclipse this weekend, with the phenomenon visible across the continent from Sunday night into early Monday.
Earth’s shadow will obscure the full moon as it passes directly between the Sun and the Moon. The total eclipse is expected to last one hour and 22 minutes, while the entire event will span more than five hours.
Earlier this year, a shorter total lunar eclipse in March offered prime viewing in the Americas. The upcoming eclipse, often referred to as a “blood moon” due to its reddish hue, will instead unfold over Asia and surrounding regions.
Regional Visibility
The full event will be visible from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines, extending north to the Arctic Ocean and south to Antarctica, as well as in East Africa and the western half of Australia.
Partial visibility is expected across the rest of Africa and Europe, while observers on the Brazilian coast and in parts of Alaska will catch glimpses of the early or late phases.
Upcoming Solar Eclipse
Astronomers noted that the lunar eclipse will be followed by a partial solar eclipse two weeks later, visible from New Zealand, parts of Australia, and Antarctica.
