TBILISI, November 11, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – A Turkish C-130 military transport plane carrying at least 20 personnel crashed in eastern Georgia on Tuesday after taking off from Azerbaijan, officials said, as rescue teams raced to the site amid reports of casualties.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan interrupted a speech in Ankara to offer condolences, referring to the victims as “our martyrs,” a term he commonly uses for members of the armed forces who die in the line of duty.

Neither Erdogan’s office nor the Turkish Defence Ministry specified the number of casualties or the cause of the crash. The ministry confirmed that 20 Turkish service members, including the flight crew, were on board the aircraft, without ruling out the presence of Azeri personnel.

The incident occurred near Georgia’s Kakheti region, close to the Azerbaijani border. Both Turkey and Georgia said they were coordinating efforts to access the crash site and conduct rescue operations.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev spoke with Erdogan following the crash and expressed condolences, according to an official readout, which described “the tragic loss of servicemen.”

The C-130 Hercules, built by Lockheed Martin, is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft widely used by air forces around the world for cargo, troop transport, and reconnaissance missions. It is known for its ability to operate on short or unprepared runways.

Local media in Georgia reported that emergency services and military recovery teams were dispatched to the area. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
