Iran Warns Bulgaria Against Supporting US and Israeli Military Operations

RIYADH, August 24 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iran warned NATO member Bulgaria against allowing its territory to support American or Israeli military operations against the Islamic Republic, saying it reserved the right to strike the source of any attack.
Bulgaria’s parliamentary Defense Committee last month approved a government proposal allowing the temporary deployment of US aerial refueling tanker aircraft and American military personnel at Bezmer Air Base. The information provided did not state that Bulgaria’s full parliament had approved the deployment.
“We have no issue with the Bulgarian people. However, we have made clear that any action regarded as supporting US and Israeli military aggression against Iran constitutes, under international law, participation in an act of aggression,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.
He added that “Iran has the right to target the point of origin and source of any act of aggression against” it.
Baghaei claimed that refueling aircraft had already departed from Bulgarian territory.
“It was previously announced – and reports have also confirmed – that several refueling aircraft have left Bulgarian territory,” he said.
“As many Bulgarian citizens and politicians themselves have acknowledged, this action is contrary to international law and amounts to support for the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.”
The CNN report did not include confirmation from Bulgarian authorities that the aircraft had departed or that Bulgarian territory had been used to support attacks against Iran.
Baghaei previously said that participation in planning or conducting such operations would amount to complicity in “the crime of aggression and war crimes.” He urged Bulgaria’s full parliament to reject the deployment.
Referring to Tehran’s evolving war strategy, Baghaei said Iran has been “playing chess for a long time,” and that in recent years, “we’ve also learned to play poker,” he said.
US President Donald Trump told Fox News earlier this month that Iranians are “good poker players, but they’re dying.”
