RIYADH, June 11 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to take Kharg Island and other Iranian oil infrastructure, while warning that the United States would hit Iran “very hard” as strikes continued between the two countries.

Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, handles about 90% of Iran’s crude exports and is considered a key part of the country’s energy infrastructure.

“The United States will be hitting Iran very hard tonight,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Trump also wrote that the United States would, “at some point in the not too distant future,” take Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure points and assume control of Iran’s oil and gas markets.

The comments followed overnight strikes exchanged by the United States and Iran, as diplomatic efforts remained stalled.

Trump had earlier warned that U.S. bombing would continue if a memorandum of understanding was not reached.

Experts have argued that any attempt to capture or attack Kharg Island would require a significant number of ground troops, while the Trump administration has so far been reluctant to call in ground forces.

The U.S. military has conducted several major air strikes on military installations on Kharg Island, while avoiding the island’s critical energy infrastructure.
