Suspected drone strike hits LNG facility at Egyptian port

PARIS, July 30 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A suspected drone struck a floating liquefied natural gas storage facility at an Egyptian port during cargo operations on Wednesday, triggering a fire that spread to a second vessel.
British maritime security firm Ambrey said its initial assessment indicated that the facility was hit. Industry sources identified the vessel as the Energos Winter, a U.S.-owned and operated ship sailing under the Marshall Islands flag.
No casualties were reported, and no group or government has claimed responsibility for the attack.
H.A. Hellyer, a senior associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, said the incident could be intended as a warning that the conflict between Iran and the United States could expand beyond its current theatre.
Hellyer said an Iran-aligned militia could have carried out the attack rather than Iran itself, but no evidence identifying the attacker has been announced.
The incident marked the first time Egypt had been directly affected by the regional conflict. Egypt has condemned Iranian attacks against Gulf countries while also urging U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war.
Egypt has maintained diplomatic contacts with the parties and acted as a channel during previous mediation efforts.
