LONDON, May 25 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - The UAE sustainability leader highlighted the importance of integrated systems thinking, institutional transformation and cross-sector collaboration in addressing global climate challenges.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan has called for stronger international collaboration and more integrated sustainability frameworks to accelerate global climate action and support long-term environmental impact.
Speaking during the University of Cambridge’s Sustainability Leadership Alumni Insight Sharing Day, Sheikha Shamma said scaling existing climate solutions and embedding sustainability within institutional structures were critical to addressing future environmental challenges.
During a discussion with Lindsay Hooper, CEO of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, held at Robinson College, Sheikha Shamma stressed the importance of building a more connected and collaborative global sustainability ecosystem.
She said climate action requires both innovation and stronger systems capable of supporting long-term implementation across industries and institutions.
“In a globalised world that is increasingly divided, we all have a responsibility to act as a bridge for the betterment of future generations,” she said.
Addressing climate priorities in the UAE and the wider region, Sheikha Shamma highlighted the need for organisations to integrate sustainability practices beyond regulatory or compliance requirements, positioning climate responsibility as part of long-term institutional strategy.
She also underlined the role individuals can play in advancing climate ambitions regardless of sector or professional background, describing climate leadership as an interdisciplinary responsibility that depends heavily on collaboration and network-building.
“One doesn’t have to work for a climate organisation to be a climate leader,” she said, encouraging professionals to apply climate and systems thinking across industries and decision-making environments.
Sheikha Shamma currently serves as President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, while also chairing Alliances for Global Sustainability, RESET MENA and Aurora50.
She holds both a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge.
