Saudi Rail Transport Records Over 39 Million Passengers in Q3 2025

Riyadh, October 19 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Transport General Authority (TGA) announced that the rail transport sector in Saudi Arabia recorded an exceptional performance in the third quarter of 2025, with more than 39 million passengers traveling by train, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the authority, intercity rail transport accounted for over 2.7 million passengers, including 2.07 million on the Haramain High-speed Railway, 251,000 on the North Train (SAR), and 378,000 on the East Train (SAR) — reflecting continued growth in demand for rail travel across the Kingdom.

Within cities, the TGA recorded more than 36.3 million passengers using urban rail services. The Riyadh Metro led with 25.2 million passengers, followed by the Automated People Mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah with 10.2 million passengers, and the Automated People Mover at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh with 967,000 passengers.

The authority also reported that over 4.09 million tons of cargo and 227,000 containers were transported via railways during the period, underscoring the sector’s growing role in supporting the national economy, enhancing supply chains, and serving the industrial and mining sectors.

The performance aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to make Saudi Arabia a global logistics hub by improving connectivity, increasing freight efficiency, and expanding passenger services.

The TGA emphasized that rail transport continues to enhance the movement of passengers and goods while offering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and achieving Vision 2030 goals.
