AL-JOUF, Dec. 29 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority, inaugurated a central nursery and wild seed research and production station in the Al-Jouf region, aimed at enhancing vegetation cover and environmental sustainability within the reserve.
Spanning 1,600 hectares, the project includes advanced botanical facilities such as parent seed fields, seed storage units, plant nurseries, and a wild plant garden to support local seed and seedling production.
According to the authority, the parent seed fields comprise 14 designated areas containing more than 400,000 trees and shrubs from over 30 native plant species.
The central nursery covers 60,000 square meters and includes 30 greenhouses, with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million seedlings representing 15 plant species. The project also features a botanical garden spanning 12,000 square meters, housing more than 280 species of trees, shrubs, and perennial grasses.
The nursery and seed station have contributed to planting more than four million seedlings and dispersing over 8,000 kilograms of seeds across 10 locations within the reserve, resulting in the growth of approximately five million wild plants, the authority said.
The project reflects ongoing efforts to restore ecosystems and expand vegetation cover within the reserve.
