RIYADH, March 6, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Saudi Arabia’s national flag holds a central place in the Saudi Ardah, the Kingdom’s traditional sword dance performed during national celebrations, official events and state receptions.

The Ardah features performers standing in synchronized rows while a flag bearer is positioned at the center. Participants, dressed in traditional attire, perform coordinated sword movements to the rhythm of drums and the chanting of patriotic poetry.

According to the Flag Day guide issued by the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), the flag used during the Ardah has specific design characteristics.

The green flag is embroidered with the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, and a sword. It measures about three meters in length and is mounted on a pole that does not exceed four meters.

The top of the pole is decorated with a golden dome and a three-pronged spearhead with hanging decorative chains.

During the performance, the flag bearer wears a reinforced belt to support the weight of the pole. Positioned at the center of the formation, he holds the pole with his left hand while the flag’s fabric rests over his right shoulder.

Traditionally, the King stands to the right of the flag bearer and may place part of the flag over his shoulder during the performance, a gesture reflecting respect for the national flag and its symbolism within Saudi heritage.
