Saudi Cabinet Condemns Houthi Attacks, Reaffirms Right to Self-Defense
JEDDAH, September 15 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet condemned continued Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian assets on Tuesday and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to defend its sovereignty, people and vital interests under the United Nations Charter and international law.
At the session chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister, the Cabinet said the country’s security and the protection of its territory and assets were inviolable. It reiterated Saudi Arabia’s right to protect its citizens and residents.
The Crown Prince briefed ministers on his phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his meeting with U.S. Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, which covered regional developments.
Media Minister Salman Al-Dossary said the Cabinet also reviewed Saudi diplomatic efforts to support peace and security through dialogue and international cooperation, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Ministers discussed Saudi Arabia’s participation as an invited state at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. They highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to cooperation with other countries and to strengthening international bodies’ ability to carry out their responsibilities.
On energy, the Cabinet reviewed Saudi Arabia’s statement at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 70th General Conference. It highlighted plans for a more diverse and sustainable national energy mix that includes nuclear power within a strong regulatory framework, alongside the Kingdom’s role in global energy supplies and market stability.
The Cabinet also welcomed participants attending the fourth UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, hosted by Saudi Arabia, and reiterated its support for international dialogue on responsible and ethical AI use.
Among its decisions, the Cabinet approved a headquarters agreement with the Institute of Internal Auditors and a memorandum of understanding on mineral resources between the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction.
It authorized the minister of investment, or a deputy, to discuss and sign a draft memorandum with Ireland on promoting direct investment.
Two further authorizations covered draft memoranda on cooperation between the King Fahd National Library and the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies, and on insurance and reinsurance cooperation and information exchange between Saudi Arabia’s Insurance Authority and Kuwait’s Insurance Regulatory Unit.
