Saudi Arabia Urges UN Security Council Action Over Houthi Attacks That Injured 73 Civilians
NEW YORK, September 11 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Saudi Arabia urged the UN Security Council to take a firm stance against Houthi attacks on the Kingdom that it said injured 73 civilians, including women and children, and to halt support enabling further attacks.
Addressing an emergency session convened to discuss the attacks, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, called for full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions. He urged the Council to fulfil its responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
Alwasil condemned attacks on civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. He warned that the escalation threatened both Saudi security and international navigation and trade through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The ambassador reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to defend itself and protect its sovereignty, citizens, residents and national assets in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
He also reiterated support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and for a comprehensive, sustainable political solution led by Yemenis that delivers security and stability and meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
