Saudi Arabia's Taif Highlands Offer Camping Experiences Among Ancient Juniper Trees

TAIF, November 7, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The mountain highlands of Taif in western Saudi Arabia are attracting camping and hiking enthusiasts, with the Al-Shafa and Al-Hada areas offering overnight stays among ancient juniper trees, rocky landscapes and natural trails.
The mountainous terrain, part of the Sarawat range, provides opportunities for outdoor activities including hiking, photography and exploring the region's diverse vegetation, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The landscape changes throughout the day, with shifting light across the mountain slopes at sunset and in the early morning. Depending on weather conditions, clouds and mist can cover sections of the highlands.
Adel Fayraq, hiking and camping supervisor with the Hike and Seek team, told SPA that overnight camping allows visitors to experience the mountain environment at different times and gain a closer understanding of its natural features.
He said choosing a suitable campsite requires consideration of terrain, weather conditions and accessibility, alongside safety requirements and environmental protection.
Fayraq emphasized the importance of preserving the area's mature juniper trees, including their roots and branches, as well as the surrounding vegetation.
He also urged campers to follow local regulations, obtain permits where required and use authorized camping areas away from flood channels and hazardous slopes.
The highlands' natural environment forms part of Taif's tourism attractions, with responsible camping practices considered essential to preserving the landscape for future visitors.
