WASHINGTON, June 2 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran still has a large number of drones, while arguing that its broader military capabilities had been weakened during the war launched by President Donald Trump in late February.
“This is a pervasive problem around the world,” Rubio told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, referring to drones.
Rubio said the low cost of drone technology made it difficult to counter, but added that Iran’s drone-building capability had been eroded.
He said Iran’s “conventional shield,” including missiles and drones used to protect its nuclear program, had been “substantially eroded.”
Rubio also said Iran’s remaining naval capability consisted of “a bunch of Boston Whalers with machine guns on them.”
He said the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports was costing Tehran “hundreds of millions” of dollars in lost revenue each day.
