Maritime Drone Detonates Near Romanian Oil Terminal

BUCHAREST, June 6 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — A maritime drone self-detonated on Friday near an oil terminal in Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanta, causing no casualties, Reuters reported.
Romanian officials did not identify whether the drone was of Ukrainian or Russian origin.
Romania’s Defence Ministry said the object detonated at 10:30 a.m. local time and was not part of Romanian army equipment or linked to recent Black Sea exercises.
Constanta port, Romania’s largest, was evacuated after the incident, while residents were warned to avoid the Black Sea coast.
Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat said ships and two helicopters were surveying the area and that the measures were preventive.
The drone detonated about 500 metres from an oil terminal.
The incident came a week after Romanian authorities said a Russian drone struck an apartment building in Galati, near the Ukrainian border, injuring two people.
Romania shares a 650-kilometre border with Ukraine and has reported repeated drone incursions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.
President Nicusor Dan described the detonation as the second significant security incident on Romania’s coast this week.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s war in Ukraine was increasingly becoming a direct threat to countries on Europe’s eastern border.
Constanta has been used by Ukraine as an alternative route for grain exports and fuel imports.
