French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and urged Tehran to halt attacks on countries in the region and enter negotiations aimed at de-escalation.

Macron described it as an “absolute necessity” to stop what he called unacceptable attacks on regional countries.

He also called for the protection of energy and civilian infrastructure and for the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The appeal included a call for good-faith negotiations to help open a path toward de-escalation.
