Riyadh, March 11, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday delivered her strongest criticism yet of the war involving the United States and Israel against Iran, describing it as part of a growing pattern of interventions outside the framework of international law.

Speaking before the Italian Senate, Meloni said the conflict reflects a broader crisis in the international system, where threats are intensifying and unilateral military actions are becoming more frequent.

Her remarks followed criticism from opposition parties accusing her government of being too cautious in addressing the actions of Italy’s allies.

Meloni also stressed that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, warning that such a development would undermine the global nuclear non-proliferation framework and pose significant risks to European security.

The conflict between Israel, the United States and Iran has entered its 12th day, with military exchanges across the region disrupting energy flows that normally account for roughly one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies.

Meloni said Italy is providing air-defense assets to Gulf countries affected by Iranian strikes, citing the presence of tens of thousands of Italian citizens in the region as well as around 2,000 Italian troops stationed in the Gulf.
