PARIS, May 25 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iran’s Health Ministry said Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei sustained only superficial injuries during the February 28 airstrike that killed his father, seeking to reject reports that his condition was more serious.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour said Khamenei suffered injuries to his face, head and legs but had no amputations, major complications or need for special treatment, according to comments cited by state-affiliated ILNA news agency.

Kermanpour said the injuries required only “one or two stitches” and that Khamenei was discharged from hospital in the early hours of the following day.

The comments followed a New York Times report last month that Khamenei’s face and lips had been severely burned, that one leg had undergone three operations, and that he was awaiting a prosthetic.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said Khamenei is in good health and overseeing talks with the United States aimed at ending the war.

Officials have also accused Iran’s enemies of spreading rumours about his health since the conflict began.
