RIYADH, June 13 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that a statement on future control of the Strait of Hormuz is expected soon, as discussions continue around a proposed U.S.-Iran framework agreement.

Araghchi told Iranian state television that the statement would be issued jointly with Oman, according to Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency.

The Strait of Hormuz lies between Iranian and Omani territory.

The comments came as a proposed framework for a U.S.-Iran agreement was reported to be finalized, with signing expected in the coming days.

U.S. officials have outlined several elements of the memorandum of understanding, including a full reopening of the strait and the lifting of a U.S. blockade on Iranian ports along the waterway.

Araghchi indicated that the waterway would not return to its pre-war operating model under the agreement.

He added that Iran would not impose tolls but would apply “service fees” for transit through the strait.
