TEHRAN, March 27, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Iran has banned its national and club sports teams from travelling to countries it considers hostile until further notice, Iranian media reported on Thursday, citing the Sports Ministry.
The ministry said the measure was imposed because of concerns over the safety of Iranian athletes and team members.
It cited Tractor FC’s scheduled Asian Champions League Elite playoff match against Shabab Al Ahli of Dubai in Saudi Arabia and said the Iranian football federation and clubs must notify the Asian Football Confederation so venues can be relocated.
The announcement did not mention this year’s World Cup, although Iran has qualified for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
