RIYADH , June 1 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iran on Monday blamed the slow pace of efforts to end the U.S.-Iran conflict on mistrust, shifting U.S. positions and continued Israeli attacks in the region, Reuters reported.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said negotiations had started amid “severe suspicion and mistrust” and that the two sides had not reached a final conclusion.

“The other party is constantly changing its views and putting forward new or contradictory demands,” Baghaei said, adding that such a situation would prolong negotiations.

Baghaei said Tehran viewed Israeli actions in the region, including in Lebanon, as inseparable from those of the United States.

He said any agreement to end the regional conflict would have to include implementation of the Lebanon ceasefire.

His comments followed an order by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to resume strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh.

Baghaei said there had not yet been negotiations on the details of the nuclear file and that Tehran was pursuing its demand for the release of frozen funds.

He also accused the United States of violating the ceasefire through attacks on Iran’s southern provinces, saying Iran was entitled to take reciprocal defensive measures under the principle of self-defence.

The United States said it struck Iranian military sites at the weekend. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Monday they had targeted a U.S. base in Kuwait in response.

“Learn from the past and do not let the U.S. and Israel use your capabilities against Iran,” Baghaei warned regional countries.
