Hayy Jameel’s “Red Wind, Coral Worlds” Closes After Exploring Red Sea Connections

JEDDAH, November 1 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – “Red Wind, Coral Worlds” has closed at Hayy Jameel after more than five months examining the connections forged across the Red Sea through trade, migration and Hajj journeys.

Organized by Art Jameel as part of its Hayy Arts exhibitions, the show ended in late October. It combined contemporary art and historical research to explore exchanges linking Jeddah, East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian Ocean.

Curators Huda Tayob and Miriam Hillawi Abraham brought together installations and archival materials, including works that used sound, scent and texture to evoke memories of place.

The exhibition examined both physical traces and intangible traditions passed between communities. Coastal and coral environments also featured in its exploration of the Red Sea’s social and environmental history.

Panel discussions and educational activities extended these themes, addressing how migration and cultural exchange influence artistic practices and how objects and places preserve memory.

“As Told by the Land,” a program inspired by two exhibitions at Hayy Jameel, invited children and young people to investigate the history and transformation of places through experimentation, documentation and creative expression.

In its final days, “Red Wind, Coral Worlds” also hosted the “Red Wind, Sonic Residues” symposium, which explored the shared musical heritage of Red Sea communities.
