Film AlUla signs financing agreement with Sherborne Media for productions in AlUla

ALULA, Saudi Arabia, September 15, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Film AlUla has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sherborne Media to give eligible productions filmed in AlUla access to loans backed by rebates and other financial incentives, SPA reported.
The agreement aims to provide producers with upfront cash against their contractual entitlements to funding, helping them meet expenses throughout production.
Film AlUla, the film agency of the Royal Commission for AlUla, signed the memorandum with the international film production financing company on the sidelines of the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
Under the framework, eligible productions would have access to debt financing at competitive rates, secured against available cash rebates, grants, incentives and other non-repayable funding. Those support packages can collectively cover up to 50% of eligible production expenses in AlUla.
The framework would bring financing access and financial due diligence into a single process for filmmakers from Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa, and other international markets.
Productions would also have access to AlUla’s facilities, including purpose-built soundstages, alongside its natural and historic locations.
The partnership includes plans for structured training programmes to develop production crew skills and support local employment. The two organisations aim to expand Saudi participation in the film industry and strengthen local production capabilities.
