Riyadh, Dec. 5, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – A group of travel and exploration enthusiasts has launched a community initiative titled “Destination is North,” setting out on a journey to highlight the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s diverse tourism assets and its natural, cultural and heritage features.
The initiative promotes responsible tourism by encouraging practices that help preserve the natural environment and protect heritage sites, with the aim of raising awareness of sustainable behaviors and safeguarding tourism resources for future generations.
“Destination is North” is part of a series of exploratory trips that will continue across other regions of the Kingdom in the coming period. The national journey seeks to encourage domestic tourism, showcase unique sites and emphasize the variety of natural environments, geographic landscapes and cultural heritage that characterize Saudi destinations.
The route began in Riyadh, passed through Hail Region, continued to AlUla, and concluded in Tabuk Region, highlighting northern Saudi Arabia’s terrain, rock formations and natural vistas.
Artist and tourism-focused traveler Khalid Abdulrahman, who serves as general supervisor of the journey, said AlUla is one of the most prominent stops due to its distinctive nature, diverse terrain and unique rock formations that make it a key cultural and natural tourism destination.
He said the initiative aims to present the diversity of tourism experiences across Saudi regions and to highlight the development of tourism services and infrastructure through field tours, visual documentation and sharing of images to introduce the Kingdom’s landscapes to wider audiences.
Abdulrahman added that participants see themselves as playing an important role in representing their homeland’s landmarks, conveying an accurate image to visitors and reflecting the hospitality of Saudi society.
The initiative contributes to strengthening the relationship between people and place, raising environmental and cultural awareness and supporting national efforts to develop sustainable tourism. It also highlights the richness of Saudi nature as part of an ongoing community effort that opens new avenues for exploration across the Kingdom.
