Saudi Arabia to Conclude ALECSO Leadership Terms at Muscat Meetings

RIYADH, November 4 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia will conclude its leadership terms at the Executive Council and General Conference of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) during meetings in Muscat from November 9 to 12.
Oman will take over the General Conference presidency on November 12. Saudi Arabia assumed that role in Jeddah in May 2024 and has chaired the Executive Council since July 2021.
The meetings will also advance a Saudi-backed allocation of $1 million for Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Yemen during the 2027–2028 financial cycle. ALECSO is scheduled to sign five agreements with those countries at the close of the General Conference, implementing an Executive Council decision to support member states affected by conflicts, crises, disasters and emergencies.
The Executive Council’s 125th session will take place on November 9 and 10, covering proposals from member states, committee reports and other agenda items.
The General Conference will meet on November 12 to discuss the draft budget and programme for 2027–2028, alongside the main elements of a draft vision for ALECSO’s work beyond 2028.
Both meetings will address the appointment of an assistant director-general following the restoration and funding of the position. They will also consider recommendations from five special committees.
